Yes, YouTube is a window into a whole world of different. It can also be a great time-waster as one wanders from topic to topic. With discipline it can also be used to find out how to fix things - I have used it for that several times and found it to be a time-saver as well.
The popularity of streaming may be due to several factors, but probably the biggest is simply entertainment value. Communication may be second.
For sure I will continue to use YouTube, but as carefully as I can so as not to take too much time from other good stuff happening.
I am not British, but this is one of the things I love about Youtube - finding things that I would never experience otherwise because I wouldn't even know to look for them. Thanks for this peek into 1950s british culture!
